Which 11+ Plus Exam Board does St John’s School use?

St John’s school uses ISEB Pre-test to assess students’ abilities in English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning. From these multiple choice computer based tests they can receive an age-standardised score of each applicant.

What is the 11+ admission process for St John’s School?

  1. Parents need to fill out the online registration form. The non-refundable registration fee is £200, unless the student is eligible for free school meals, in which case it is free. For overseas students the registration fee is £300.
  2. Candidates take the ISEB Pre-test across October and November. Most students sit the test in October at their current school, but students are also welcome to sit the test at St John’s in November. Overseas candidates can take theISEB Pre-Tests at the British Council or an approved testing centre.
  3. St John’s Experience Day– This consists of fun group activities where staff members monitor how schools use problem solving skills, team building abilities and how they behave overall. There will also be an interview one-on-one with a teacher or member of staff.
  4. Scholarship exams in January.

Offers are given in mid-February. The deadline for acceptance of a student’s place at St John’s is in early March.

What is the 11+ exam format like for St John’s School?

The ISEB Pre-test consists of four key areas:

  • English – Assesses reading comprehension and grammar through cloze sentences, shuffled sentences, and SPaG-based questions.
  • Mathematics – Evaluates mathematical ability in line with the national curriculum.
  • Verbal Reasoning – Measures problem-solving skills using words and language.
  • Non-Verbal Reasoning – Tests logical thinking through shapes, spatial awareness, diagrams, and visual patterns.

The full assessment takes approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes to complete.
