Which 11+ Plus Exam Board does St George’s School use?
St George’s uses the school’s own 11+ in English and Maths (a mixture of written and multiple choice questions) and also a CEM test in Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning (this is a multiple choice computer based exam).
What is the 11+ admission process for St George’s School?
- Parents need to fill out the online registration form. The non-refundable registration fee is £180.
- Candidates will take the 11+ test and be interviewed by a senior member of staff in December.
- Scholarship assessments will take over November and January.
- Offers will be sent out in February.
- Deadline for accepting a place is in March.
What is the 11+ exam format like for St George’s School?
The St George’s School 11+ entrance exam consists of the following:
English paper, 1 hour:
- English: Section A – Reading comprehension out of 25 marks: assesses understanding of language devices, meanings of phrases, the effect on the readers, along with vocabulary, punctuation, and inference skills.
- English: Section B – Creative Writing task out of 25 marks: Marks will be given for effective use of imagination, structure, purpose, organisation, coherence, sentence construction and punctuation.
Maths paper, 45 minutes:
- Includes a range of non-multiple choice questions. Topics include a wide variety of 11+ maths, such as: core operations, number skills, problem solving, geometry, measurements, and algebra.
The CEM test consists of:
- Verbal Reasoning (VR): This focuses on vocabulary, comprehension, and logical thinking using words. Example topics: synonyms, antonyms, close passages, and word pair relationships.
- Non-Verbal Reasoning (NVR): Assesses the ability to analyse and solve problems using visual information. Example topics: pattern recognition, spatial awareness, and sequences of shapes
- Numerical Reasoning (Maths): Tests mathematical reasoning and problem-solving skills. Example topics: arithmetic, word problems, and logical number patterns.
Candidates will also sit an interview with a senior member of staff.

Does St George’s School offer Scholarships and Bursaries?
Scholarships awarded on entry into the school give 10% off the school fees. Scholarships are awarded for the following: Academic, Art, Drama, Music and Sport.
These are gained during entry via the 11+, 13+ or 16+.
The Academic Scholarships are awarded from the highest performances in the entrance tests, therefore a separate form for this does not need to be filled out. The other Scholarships candidates will need to attend the given Scholarship day and an online form will need to be filled out.
Bursaries are given to students with proven finance needs.
