Reigate Grammar School Private Tutors

Reigate Grammar School administers its own entrance tests, which assess English, Mathematics, and Reasoning skills.

Applications close in November for Year 7 entry. 

The entrance exam takes place in January, allowing students to participate in various group activities. All candidates sitting the exam are automatically considered for an academic scholarship.

Later in January, applicants will have a one-on-one interview with a staff member to discuss their hobbies and interests, followed by a group interview with the Headmaster.

A reference from the current school is required before the 11+ examinations. Offer letters are sent in February, with the acceptance deadline set for March.

The Reigate Grammar School entrance exam consists of two written papers and a computer-based test:

• English (60 minutes): Includes comprehension and creative writing, assessing vocabulary, punctuation, and inference skills. Marks will be given for effective use of imagination, structure, purpose, organisation, coherence, sentence construction and punctuation.
• Mathematics (45 minutes): Assesses number, algebra, shapes and space, data handling, and problem solving skills. 
• Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning (online): Measures how well students understand and process words and language. Includes tasks like identifying relationships between words, recognising patterns, and completing analogies. Assesses the ability to analyse and solve problems using visual information.

Scholarships can also be combined with bursaries for families requiring additional financial support.

• Music, Sports, and Headmaster’s Scholarships – Require a separate application and assessment.

Bursaries are available for students in genuine financial need who perform well in the entrance exam and interview. These can cover up to 100% of tuition fees, subject to an annual financial review. Families with a total gross annual income over £95,000 are unlikely to qualify.
